A WORLD OF HOPE FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES

Abedunego Memorial Women and Children Hospital Mityana Limited, Mityana, Uganda

Saving families and lives and teaching healthcare

(UPDATE: Construction of the first building of the hospital is complete as of December 2023. In February 2024 we received written approval from the Mityana District authorities to open the hospital. Dr. Kigongo traveled to Uganda to start up the hospital in April 2024!

Pregnant women in Uganda rarely get proper prenatal care. The infant mortality rate is 43 per 1,000 live births and 60 of 1,000 children die before age 5. Most female ailments go untreated and the majority of births are not attended by trained medical personnel.

Dr. Christopher Kigongo and his wife Robinah, an RN are working to open a women and children’s hospital in Mityana to treat people holistically; physically, mentally and spiritually and with respect and dignity.

Dr. Kigongo is trained and experienced as a surgeon in Uganda and has worked to combat the spread of malaria, poor maternal health, STDs, and general healthcare for rural residents in the area now known as Mityana District. He started satellite clinics to address the growing problem of AIDS. He holds a Master’s in Public Health from the University of North Carolina and previously worked as a clinical supervisor in liver research at Duke University Hospital.

Currently Dr. Kigongo is working at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota in Liver research and shadowing doctors who are able to help him “get up to speed” with Women’s and Children’s Health.

The hospital has a promise of some local support along with patient fees once it is functional but urgently needs help to provide for initial equipment, computers, and salaries.
